Ladies Can Enjoy DIY Too

By Timothy Capper
The truth is out; you do not need a man for a DIY project. It does make it easier if you don't have the time or inclination, but if you are so inclined to get the job done yourself, then this article should stand you in good stead for your DIY projects.
Have the Right Tools
An essential part of any DIY endeavour is having the right set of tools. These include ...
hand tools as well as power tools. Important hand tools include a spirit level, duct tape, screwdrivers, tape measure, pliers, gloves, goggles, and hammer and nails.
Along with these basic manual tools, you should also make sure to have the king of the power tool - the cordless drill. This tool is sure to make all projects significantly easier. Most cordless drills are small and easy to manoeuvre and can be used in any number of DIY projects. Other power tools that are highly useful include but are certainly not limited to jigsaws and sanders
Make sure that you are purchasing tools that are of good quality. You don't want to purchase a shoddy piece of equipment now only to realize that you need to replace it 6 months later. Many tools, although they cost more, are able to last an entire lifetime. If you can afford a better tool, it is definitely worth it. Pay particular attention to tools that are powered using lithium-ion batteries as they are known to be far more powerful and long-lasting.
Have a Designated Work Area
Depending upon the size of your home, it may not be possible to have a full-out work bench but make sure that you have an area that is well-lit and has access to plenty of space and outlets. A kitchen counter, for example, can be highly useful for the majority of projects. Make sure that, if you choose to use a surface such as the counter, you cover the area with a protective covering such as bubble wrap to prevent any damage.
Dress Appropriately
Make sure that you dress the right way for your project. If you have long hair, tie it back. You don't want it to get caught in any tools etc. as this could lead to serious injury. Remove any jewellery that dangles and wear clothing that fits well - not too baggy and not too tight.
Plan Ahead and Know Your Project
Before beginning any project, make sure that you know exactly what materials you will need. Break down the project into separate steps and make a list of each of the items you will need to complete those steps. This way, you won't have to stop mid-project to go to the hardware store to get more materials.
After you have acquired all the materials that you need, ensure that you know how to use them appropriately. Be confident in yourself and don't be afraid of the tools that you will be using. If you feel uncomfortable with yourself when using the necessary materials, workshops are available that teach the basics of DIY power tools and projects.
Become Friends with Your Hardware Store
Get to know where stuff is in your hardware store and don't be afraid to ask questions of the people who work there. Chances are, they know more than you do - particularly if you are new to DIY projects. Being familiar with what the store carries will also save you time when it comes to doing your shopping for various projects
Cordless drills can have different adapters added to become sanders and saws. Check which power tools offer this flexibility.
